Volleyball: Wichita State @ Texas (Pre-Game)





The Shox (30-1) are coming off a huge-win over Rice (23-8), by scores of (21-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-20). While the Longhorns (26-3) are coming off an easy sweep of Lamar (25-17, 25-14, 25-8). Tomorrow Wichita State and Texas will meet in the regional final at 4:30 in Austin.

Wichita State will have to rely heavily on outside hitters Emily Stockman, Lindsey Eckenroad, and Amanda Backes to get around the Longhorns length. Those three could make or break the match for the Shockers.

Scouting the Texas Longhorns

Major wins include; #12 USC (3-0), #18 Utah (3-0), #26 New Mexico State (3-0), #4 Nebraska (3-1), #16 Kansas State (3-2 and 3-0), #32 Texas A&M (3-1 and 3-0)

Losses include; #2 Stanford (2-3), #4 Nebraska (1-3), Oklahoma (2-3)

Texas is currently #3 in the latest AVCA poll, and #5 in the RPI.

They are lead in kills by Junior OH Destinee Hooker, who averages 4.13 kills per game and has a total of 409 kills on the season. Michelle Kocher is the main setter for the Longhorns averaging 11.16 assists per game. There best serving threats are Destinee Hooker and Ashley Engle both accumulating more than 25 service aces on the season.

As a team the Longhorns are outscoring there opponents in kills per game, 14.55 to 11.97, in assists per game, 13.16 to 11.18, and in service aces per game, 1.22 to 0.94. They also hold a team attack percentage of .340, there opponents attack percentage sits at .173. The Longhorns look solid in every aspect of the game.

Other Volleyball News
In the Valley UAB swept Missouri State, and Iowa State defeated UNI 3 to 1. In the regional below the Shockers, Duke defeated San Francisco 3-2. The match between #14 UCLA and LSU is in progress.
