0-3
The Shockers we're swept today in Austin 3-0 by the #3 Texas Longhorns (14-25, 18-25, and 20-25). The Longhorns we're too much for the Shox to handle and dominated in all aspects of the match. This was Wichita State's 3rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament, each time the Shox have exited in the second round to the hands of a big 12 school.
Lindsey Eckenroad led the Shockers in kills, recording 9 on the day. Both Emily Stockman and Sarah McGee recorded 7. Mary Elizabeth Hooper hit a team high .429. The Longhorns hit .384 on the day compared to the Shox .202. Perhaps the biggest mismatch on the day was the serving game where Texas recorded 5 aces to the Shockers 0.
Jenn Dorris of the Longhorns however had the most successful attack percentage recording 8 kills on 9 attempts. Destinee Hooker spiked home 13 kills, and Ashley Engle had 12 kils.
The Shockers though do complete arguable the school's most successful season holding a 30-2 record. It was the first time in school history that the Shox recorded 30 wins in a season. Two seniors, Kelly Broussard and Angela Jakubov, will graduate. Broussard will be a big hole to fill for next season and it appears either Sarah Waldorf or Melissa Granville will take here place as the libero for next year. Nevertheless it was a great season of Volleyball and look forward to seeing next year's team in action.
